ForgeFlux is a project in the forge federation domain that is trying to make forges federate by building external adapters. We use the forge's native APIs and create a translation layer to talk to other nodes on the federating forge network. We aim to make Forgejo and GitHub federate for the first stable release.
Software development increasingly happens on platforms that double as social networks: issues, pull requests, and comments are public discourse controlled by a single company. An outage, policy change, or account ban on such a platform can halt collaboration for entire communities.
ForgeFlux reduces this infrastructure risk by federating forges so that activity on Forgejo, GitHub, and other systems can reach users across the network. Developers are less dependent on one operator deciding who can participate, what is visible, and whether a project continues to exist on the platform at all.
